The Witt Mitchell Building, constructed in 1904 during a wave of development that transformed Hennepin Avenue from a residential to a commercial district, looks here as it did for much of the 20th century. Removing the period-specific black-light posters and hippie youth congregating outside, these small-time tie, wig, and greeting card shops and their hand-painted signage could date to any point between 1930 and 1980. Look to the left, though, and you see the type of structure that was beginning to dominate the visual identity of downtown Minneapolis by the 1970s: concrete parking garages.
Mike has been an avid photographer, both as a hobby and a profession, for over forty years. His specialty is naturalistic images of people, places and things.
